The CR250 is a dirt bike legend. I had a 1980 CR250 Elsinore many moons ago.

Exhaust springs are cheap enough to replace if you have any doubts, trust me on that one.

A good example of a deathtrap street bike is the Hyabusa. There's gotta be some good videos on youtube, I didn't look yet

I'd lean toward using the Dinli CDI and working on the shutdown issue. Do you have a wiring diagram for this machine? May be some updated wiring needs a kill wire changed or added. Lots of these Chinese ATV's use the same wire colors.

I haven't seen an Apollo dirt bike anywhere, anytime. Are they still manufacturing them?

Remember when they said 2 stroke motorcycles were ruining the atmosphere. What a joke. 2 stroke dirt bikes are good for mother earth. They bring joy to the motorcycle community which in turn helps cure atmospheric troubles.

Not seeing Cazador UTV dealers anywhere, but they have their address listed as 1250 Champion Circle Ste 100, Carrollton TX.

If someone lives in Carrollton Texas maybe they can stop in?

I would have to borrow a friend's bike first. If I rode someone else's bike for a few days I would have a better opinion. I would never lay down cash for an unfamiliar Chinese motorcycle brand.

How Often Do You Change the Air Filter on a DVX?

I was wondering how often do you change the air filter on a DVX quad. Should i plan on a schedule, or just change when it appears dirty.

QuoteI have always cleaned my air cleaner and only changed once or twice a year, but I can see this being different for somebody who rides in a dusty environment. I think air filter maintenance is a common sense judgement call.

Aftermarket Crankshaft Hole Plug

is there an aftermarket  crank whole plug to replace 3402-898?

QuoteYour local auto parts store usually has a pretty good selection of drain plugs, you may be able to match one up there. Hopefully you're not still looking for one...

Anyone ever change over you quad with purple DVX plastics? I'm thinking about picking up purple plastics if I can fond them. Anyone have pictures of a purple DVX ATV, please post! Thanks!!

QuotePurple DVX Plastics sound cool, wondering if you ever went ahead with aftermarket plastics and how your quad looks now.

ATV Pow-Wow / How to Test the Battery in a DVX ATV

How to Test the Battery in a DVX ATV

How to Test the Battery in a DVX ATV: Looking for some basic advice on this one. The ATV starts when I want it to but it seems as though sometimes it struggles and sometimes it turns over better. Not sure if I have a battery problem or something else in the starting system.

So I thought I'd start at the battery and test it first.

QuoteIf this were my ATV, I would also start with the battery and go forward from there. If your connections are good, tight, and clean, a load test on a battery is a good place to start.

You can use a voltmeter to test for 12V when the battery is at rest, you should see anywhere from 12.3VDC to 13.5VDC. This static test doesn't give you the whole story. When the battery is loaded down, voltage can drop substantially.

If you have alligator clips you can clip the test leads to the battery or have a helper hold the leads on the battery terminals while someone else tries to start the ATV.

A voltage drop of maybe 2V would be expected, but to see the battery voltage drop to 8 volts or less would indicate to me that it's time to go battery shopping.

ATV Pow-Wow / OEM or Aftermarket Brake Pads for a DVX
February 15, 2020, 04:37:37 AM
OEM or Aftermarket Brake Pads for a DVX?

OEM or Aftermarket Brake Pads for a DVX, that's the question of the hour. Is there any advantage one way or another? How about pricing? Are the OEM DVX brake pads cheaper or more expensive than buying an aftermarket brand?

QuoteI use whatever brand of brake pads i can get at the moment i need them. I have never felt like one brand was exceptionally better than another. I would suggest you don't get the cheapest one because you get what you pay for, other than that, I wouldn't worry that much especially going out and buying OEM brake pads.

DVX ATV Exhaust Springs

Anyone ever replace their DVX ATV exhaust springs? Do they ever get worn out or stretched where they should get changed out?

QuoteExhaust springs are cheap and if it looks to you like they need changing, then by all means change them. I would be surprised to see them wear out very often unless something isn't seated properly.

ATV Pow-Wow / DVX ATV Cable Lube
February 15, 2020, 04:35:23 AM
DVX ATV Cable Lube?

Does anyone use cable lube with any regularity on their DVX ATV? Can I just use motor oil or should I buy a specialty cable lube product?

QuoteBuy ATV cable lube. I have heard of people using motor oil twenty years ago but I see no reason to go that route. PJ1 makes cable lube and that is its only use... lubricating cables

QuoteI guess motor oil would do the trick, but like you said, there's really no point doing that. Shimano also makes a good cable lube from what I've heard.

QuoteJust use cable lube since it is designed for this use on your Arctic Cat cables. They also make universal cable lube tools that help guide the cable lube inside properly and they only cost a few bucks. You can get them online or at a dealer.

ATV Pow-Wow / Which Spark Plug is Best for a DVX ATV
February 15, 2020, 04:33:52 AM
Which Spark Plug is Best for a DVX ATV?

QuoteMy feeling is that it doesn't matter what brand of spark plug you use as long as it is properly sized. Champions are good and available almost anywhere, NGK has a good reputation but i think they are overpriced. I think you can even cross over to Auto-lite.

QuoteThe right spark plug for an Arctic Cat DVX is mostly just using the proper size and the right gap.

Quote

I've actually experimented over the years with my Arctic cats and other ATV's and I always felt like i could foul an NGK easier than any other brand in my 2 strokes. As for 4 strokes though, I could never see a difference between the brands. So the right spark plug for an Arctic Cat ATV is probably just preference, just do your own experiment.

Should I Use an Aftermarket Muffler on a DVX

(this post was migrated form dvx400.com)

QuoteShould I use an aftermarket muffler on my DVX quad? Is it worth the investment? I'm not sure I want a louder machine if it's not going to improve performance by that much.

QuoteAftermarket mufflers for 4 stroke engine are more show than go. If you ask me, the gains in power are minimal and the increase in noise just aren't worth it.

QuoteI used to agree with the "more show than go" theory on silencers anyway. But replacing the entire exhaust can get you a major improvement to say the least, it can increase the mid-range power, you may see an increase right from idle also. I learned this by swapping my original exhaust and my new pipe and silencer on and off my machine multiple times. It was a NOTICEABLE difference.

These pipes and silencers aren't cheap and may not be worth it depending on how hard you plan on riding. But if you're after a performance  increase on your Arctic Cat or any ATV, replacing the stock exhaust system should be one of the first steps. Get a quality exhaust system first and build additional performance mods after that.

What is the best Arctic Cat silencer and pipe? That I don't know but i have had good luck with FMF products.

How Often to Change Oil in a DVX 400 ATV

(this post was migrated from dvx400.com)

QuoteHow often do you change the oil in a DVX ATV? Looking for some advice I guess. I plan on trail riding my DVX so you get an idea of how I plan to ride my quad.

QuoteOil is cheap and I change it frequently. I sometimes drain it out and it doesn't even look like it needed to be changed so maybe I overdue it when it comes to oil change intervals.

QuotePlan on keeping your Cat? Change the often more often than you think you need to. Oil is fairly cheap and your ATV will thank you for it!

QuoteDo you guys recommend any particular oil brand that's known to work best with our ATVs?

QuoteDVX Oil viscosity is the most important aspect but I always avoid generic oil

Dirt Bike Pow-Wow / Re: Arctic Cat Mini Bikes
January 17, 2020, 03:51:49 AM
Arctic Cat made a series of mini bikes called the Climber, Prowler, Screamer, and Whisker. They were marketed to young aspiring motorbike riders and resembled the snowmobiles of the time period.

They were manufactured and sold from 1970 through 1972 and went away not long after production was moved to General Leisure Products, which was a subsidiary of Arctic Enterprises at that time.

I'm not a Ducati biker, but I have to admit their style is very cool. Whoever designs those bikes has a flare for designing motorcycles.

I know this is an old post, but the scarcity of parts becomes part of the adventure. Honda stopped producing many OEM 350X parts years ago. Now you rebuild with NOS, used, and aftermarket parts. My point is, that's part of the challenge.

ATV Pow-Wow / Arctic Cat DVX90 ATV
January 17, 2020, 03:43:27 AM
Here is a description of the DVX90 that I found on another website.

The DVX90 ATV is a child size 90cc ATV available in various colors including pink for the little ladies as well as white, black & red, and black & green.

This is Arctic Cat's best attempt to crack the youth 4 wheeler market. Its attractive appearance make it a top contender in the youth ATV arena.

The DVX 90 is outfitted with many safety features including (which were new for 2009) working headlights and manual reverse gear. Other safety features include the full floorboards, padded handlebars, removable ignition key, standard rear brake lights, and a highly visible orange safety flag.

Model years 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 only saw minor updates to this model.

These ATV's are designed for riders 12 and older, and are powered by a 90cc, SOHC, 2-Valve, four-stroke engine with an automatic transmission and a 15 mph max speed governor. It makes a great starter ATV for any eager youth.

With the Arctic cat name, at least you know you've bought something you can count on... unlike all the knockoff brands.

In 2018, the DVX90 still provides solid ATV enjoyment for the youth sector. They list the ground clearance at 7 and a quarter inches so this small scale machine has enough room to ride on the rough trails with the big boys.

They are also supplying the 90's with Kenda tires which have an above average traction pattern and durability rating.
This machine overall is a good choice for the younger ATV riders especially when compared with some of the Chinese import ATV's.

ATV Pow-Wow / Arctic Cat DVX250 ATV
January 17, 2020, 03:39:47 AM
Here is a description of the DVX250 I found on another website...

The DVX250 ATV by Arctic Cat is the ideal machine to accommodate the transition of youth to young adult ATV riding. It was marketed by Arctic Cat to encompass an age group that has been neglected by other manufacturers.

The DVX250 ATV is a liquid cooled 249cc ATV available in multiple color schemes. It is an entry level ATV and it was priced accordingly. The front end is suspended by pre-load adjustable shocks (a nice design, by the way) with double A-arms and the rear is an adjustable swingarm setup which is very adequate for this ATV.

It's fuel tank is actually larger than three gallons which makes life easier on the trail. It is smooth shifting, peppy, and comfortable.

With the Arctic cat name, at least you know you've bought something you can count on... unlike all the knockoff brands we see on the market.

For a sport ATV, the 250 is sized primarily for a teen rider just getting the wheels under his or her feet. Some riders have mentioned a lack of real horsepower as a drawback to the 250, but when you consider the overall size and weight of the ATV, the engine output is proportional.

When purchasing a used DVX250 from the pre-owned market, the sizing of the ATV is critical, in other words, you get what you pay for. This is an entry level ATV which was designed to attract younger riders or those who are inexperienced with ATV riding in general.

ATV Pow-Wow / Arctic Cat DVX300 ATV
January 17, 2020, 03:36:32 AM
Here is a good description of the DVX300 ATV from Arctic Cat I found on another site.

More changes to the Arctic Cat ATV lineup. Arctic Cat has added a new variation to the DVX ATV family, the DVX 300 ATV. Recognizing the need for an affordable, mid-sized, easy to ride, youth sport quad, Arctic Cat has designed and released the new DVX300.

More powerful than the DVX250, the new DVX300 features a 270cc, SOHC, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that includes a backup fan for more consistent and stable cooling.

The rear wheels of the DVX300 ATV are fed through a fully automatic CVT transmission with high, forward and reverse gears that are easy to use.

The 300 was also produced for the 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015 model years. This is a great addition to the youth sport quad environment.

In 2013, the DVX300 offers up one the features that makes an ATV into a real ATV, and that is removable fenders. You know you've got a fun day ahead when you can decide just how dirty or muddy you would like to get.

It's about having full control over your experience. They are also stocking them with Kenda Klaw XCF tires which are a great all-around cross country thread, ideal for mud slinging as well.

The Sportsman was always a solid offering from Polaris. The problem is that they were under-powered when you compare them with the other big 4x4's.
